About the project

This bachelor’s project explores the transfer effect in web developers following use of an AI-powered learning tool. The tool is an AI chatbot built with the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React & Node), designed with a pedagogical tone to guide developers through their work, with the goal of building core knowledge within a specific area of web development. Through a review of existing research literature, the group identified a gap in the field — particularly around the educational dimension of AI tool usage in learning contexts. The project investigates whether knowledge gained through the chatbot transfers to new tasks and situations, and thus whether AI tools can serve as genuine learning aids rather than purely productivity tools. The group was supervised by the Human-Centered AI Lab at NTNU Gjøvik. It has been an exciting project, and both the insights and the product may hopefully prove useful to future students, educators, and hobbyist developers.
